GUITAR-BUILDING (STEM) COURSES Flyer HERE
The San Diego City College Center for Applied Competitive Technologies (CACT) is partnering with the Manufacturing Engineering Technology Program (MFET) to offer a 3-part approach to allowing high school students earn college credits while still attending high school.
Part 1 allows students to attend classes at City College during their junior or senior year:
San Diego City College is offering FREE Guitar kits as part of a STEM Electric Guitar-Building Program to high school students next semester. Each student successfully completing the program will earn 4 College Credits.
The class will meet each Saturday in the City College Technology Building, Room T-113 from 10:15 AM to 1:20 PM beginning February 4th, and ending with a Guitar Jam & Photo Session on May 27th.
The STEM Guitar-Building course is part of the Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MFET) Program. The 4 College Credits earned can be applied to a Certificate of Performance, Certificate of Achievement, and/or an AS Degree in MFET.
High schools can choose to implement Part 1 only, Part 1 and 2, or all three parts, Part 1, 2, & 3.
Part 2 allows teachers to attend a STEM Guitar-Building workshop at San Diego City College next summer to learn how to apply STEM Guitar-Building in their high school classroom:
The National STEM Guitar Project, in partnership with NSF Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Centers with funding provided through a grant from The National Science Foundation (#1304405), hosts innovative Guitar Building Institutes around the United States. The 5-day institutes, combined with additional instructional activities comprising 80 hours, provide faculty training on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for middle, high school, and post-secondary faculty. The institutes present and teach participants hands-on, applied learning techniques to help engage students and spark excitement for learning STEM subject matter.
Part 3 allows high schools to implement a STEM Guitar-Building program at their high school similar to the program at City College:
San Diego City College’s MFET & CACT faculty and staff will partner to help high schools duplicate the STEM Guitar-Building Program at their school.
Credits earned at the high school will transfer to San Diego City College, and can be used toward a Certificate of Performance, Certificate of Achievement, and/or an AS Degree in MFET.
