Hovercraft Challenge
Last Saturday, April 30, 2016, Chula Vista High School’s Physics Club Spartan Physics Force (SPF) competed in a county wide competition organized by Northrop Grumman at one of their facilities against other schools from around the county.
This year’s challenge was to build a Hover Craft that could accelerate, maneuver through an obstacle course with payload carrying. The competition was scored on 3 aspects; a preliminary design report (PDR), a presentation, and obstacle course performance.
This was SPFs 5th time competing in the challenge. In past years, they have taken three 2nd place finishes and one 3rd place finish. This time around, SPF finally took the top spot FIRST PLACE! First place receives a $1,250 for their club or program.
The team consisted of 7 committed students, 2 teachers and a mentor engineer from Northrop Grumman.
Students: Angel Delgado, Arlette Flores, Omar Garcia, Diego Amador, Andres Perez, Ashely Curtis, and Benny De La Rosa.
Teachers: Steve Streifer and Patrick Mallory
Mentor Engineer: Yesse Tanner (yes, that is correct, Mr. Scott Tanner’s daughter -former ASB Dean at CVHS and a graduate of Tom Dunn’s Physics Program at Bonita Vista HS.)
CONGRATULATIONS TO SPARTAN PHYSICS FORCE (SPF) STUDENTS, TEACHERS, AND MENTOR.
GO SPARTANS!!!
